Happy Friday, my friends, and welcome to another Bible journal the rainbow with me post! This second-to-last installment is inspired by a collection of Bible journaling printables from Illustrated Faith. It’s also a way to revisit a project/study of my own invention from back in February. Hope you enjoy!
Bible journal the rainbow – Blue
Illustrated Faith’s study has this to say about the color blue and its meaning in the Bible:
Blue represents water, the sky, and sapphires, and it symbolizes Heaven and the Holy Spirit.

The secular site I’ve been using says:
The color of trust and loyalty. Blue has a calming and relaxing effect, giving us peace, and makes us feel confident and secure. It dislikes confrontation and too much attention, but it is an honest, reliable, and responsible color and you can always count on its support.

The Scripture-based source for this series has this to say:
Blue is the color of the sky, thus connected with the heavens. Blue dyes were inferior to purple, but still rare and valuable. Blue was used on the hem of priestly garments, in the tabernacle and on the temple. Blue indicates Heaven, the Holy Spirit, and truth.

About sapphire, a sub-color:
Sapphire indicates the Law, commandments, grace, revelation, and the Holy Spirit.

And now, to the Bible journal the rainbow process!
Bible journal the rainbow – blue
The first step in this process is to create a background of acrylic paint. I chose to cover some of the words on this page in the interest of highlighting the specific verses that I was focused on in this process (the description of priestly garments described in Exodus 28), but you can choose to avoid doing this if you wish. I loved reading the description of the elaborate, finely made garments described in this passage!
Next, I added the main idea of the color meaning of blue in the Bible using a Tombow dual brush pen. I also outlined the letters of key words with a sparkly brush pen!
I finished off this page with a sticker sheet from Pipsticks that has all kinds of blue things. I love that all of the everyday blue items now displayed on this page have become reminders of how this lovely color is used in Scripture!
The color blue is part of the “Ambassador” persona from the Wings study that I created earlier this year. It was such a good time learning about the different aspects of our identity in Christ! The fact that blue was used on the special clothing of priests, who were the go-betweens for the people talking to God, makes a lot of sense to me. It’s a great connection with the idea that I already had in my head of blue as the color of royalty and a trustworthy ambassador, which is who we are when we share the Gospel.
You can find out more about the Wings study and what I learned here!
I hope you’ve enjoyed this Bible journal the rainbow with me post. What does the color blue mean to you? I’d love to know!
Happy journaling!
