welcome back to another Bible journal with me, where you can follow along as I inhale, digest and meditate on the Word of God through creative lettering, journaling and artwork. This week I was inspired by Sunday’s sermon to journal about hope and confidence in God’s steadfast love and faithfulness. Enjoy!
ESV Scripture Journal – Psalms
Here’s a look at the original page I created while I was watching/listening to the sermon online from my dorm room. I created this page in my ESV Illuminated Scripture journal – Psalms, and used many of the same supplies that are listed in the process below.
Supplies
- Christian Planner – 2021 (it was on sale 🙂
- Crayola Colors of the World Markers
- Happy Planner “Pressed Florals” sticker book
- washi tapes from Joanns, Hobby Lobby and others
- Tombow Fudenosuke Brush Pens
- Zebra clip pens
Process
While I was listening to the sermon, something the pastor said reminded me of a song from the unofficial-official Hunger Games soundtrack. I decided on this page to highlight a key phrase from the song on one side and a key phrase from the sermon on the other. But first, I laid a foundation of washi tape and a piece of patterned paper to write the verse I was reflecting on.
Step 2: Write the key phrase
The next step in my process was to write out the key line from the song that I wanted to emphasize. I used two different Crayola markers to do this and used a form of faux-ligraphy that’s basically just cursive writing. I love the way the words look, especially after I outlined them with my hard-tipped Fudenosuke brush pen.
Step 3: Write the verse(s)
Next I wrote the verse that the sermon focused on in the patterned paper that I glued onto the top-right corner of the page. This gave the page some texture and makes the verse stand out. I wrote the verse (Psalm 31:9, 14 ESV) in pretty much my normal handwriting and the reference in a light blue Papermate flair pen.
You can find the meat of what I took away from the sermon and the song lyrics in this post!
Step 4: add stickers!
After this, I decided to add some floral stickers to fill in some of the empty space (and a mistake I made in the middle of my lyrics🤦♀️). They also keep up with the vintage, Hunger Games-inspired theme of cream, yellow and red-brown tones.
Step 5: reflect and digest
I basically repeated steps 1-4 on the opposite page, then filled in the space with my Zebra Clip pens, using one color for the verses quoted, another for the references, and two more for key words. I also wrote out a cross-reference in the top-left corner of the page (1 Thessalonians 5:13 ESV).
Here’s the post I wrote that covers the full extent of what I took away from these verses/song lyrics
I hope you’ve enjoyed this Bible journal with me post outside of my Bible. I really enjoy having this two-page spread in between each week where I can reflect on a verse that God has put on my heart throughout the week. Let me know what you think!
Happy journaling!
