Welcome back to another episode of Que Lo Kayslee’s Saturday Shuffle, holiday edition. This week we’re bringing you the highlights from the rock, Christian rap, and folk genres. Enjoy!
“Martinelli’s” by Wordsplayed + Andy Mineo
This song is pretty much my theme song at this point, since I tend to enjoy drinking soda/juice out of a champagne glass. The track is excellent though, with trap-style effects, a piano run, and the refrain of “Champagne glass with the Martinelli’s”. Plus the lyrics are brilliant, basically a whole lot of talking about spending all the funds on Martinelli and drinking sparkling cider instead of alcohol… yeah, it’s great π₯πΎπ
“Christmas Time Is Here” by Hollyn
A female Christian artist with a beautiful voice. I love Hollyn’s more upbeat songs, but this one is a bit more chill, with piano mixed with soft drums and modern effects. Perfect soundtrack for sipping a little nonalcoholic bubblyπΈ
“Jingle Bells” by Skid Row
This song is so awesome! Very much a rock song, and a great contrast to all the softer songs you hear around this time of year. Try listening to this song and not headbanging. If you succeed I applaud you π€£ππ©βπ€
“Emmanuel You’re One of Us” by Rend Collective
This whole album is wonderful, with a nice Irish twist to it. This song in particular has a nice alternative feel, with some interesting and different lyrics and nice airy vocals. 10 out of 10, would recommend.
“Last Christmas” by Jimmy Eat World
This is a wonderful alternative mix of the song we all know. The band starts with an acoustic guitar and drums line, then follows with the lead vocals and some more expressive electric guitar. It has a very 90s feel, which I greatly appreciate πΈ
“Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy” mixed by Dopaminex
This song is… so epic! The artist took a beautiful ballet song and made it somehow even better, with the magical chimes and the bongo-like drums and all the things. So good!
“Thumpety Thump Thump” by K-Drama
If you’re a fan of Christian rap, or just rap, and traditional Christmas music bores you, then you’ll appreciate this song. The whole premise of it is “I like rap music all year round” and it’s so much fun to listen to. A refreshing change after all the pop-style music that is so… common… ππ€£π
“Come On Christmas, Christmas Come On” by Smash Mouth
I was pleasantly surprised to discover that Smash Mouth has a Christmas album, and it did not disappoint. This song was so good, it got me out of bed after snoozing my alarm 127589.2 times last week π Makes you feel like you’re in a “waking up and getting ready” montage from a Christmas movie, which is a very fun feeling. Musically speaking, it’s got the classic rock anthem feel, with synthesizer/piano, drums, and a couple guitars. So much fun!
Albums On My Mixtape

- “Twelve Songs of Christmas” by Etta James
- “The Gift: A Christmas Compilation” by 116 (popular Christian rap clique)
