Happy October, friends, and welcome to a new series of blog posts! I found this super cool devotional several years ago called Finding God in the Hunger Games, and I’m finally working through it. I’ll be sharing what I learn from each of the thirty-day devotional readings, and applying what I learn using my very own Katniss-inspired prayer journal. Hope you enjoy!
Day 2
Day 2 of this devotional is called “God Chooses Unlikely Heroes,” which talks a lot about how our humanity *should* disqualify us from being used by God. The author mostly focuses on Katniss’ identity as a citizen of the Outlying Districts, and how her initial survival instincts are transformed into selfless desire to protect and fight for others. I love this topic, both in the books and IRL!
Verse of the Day
1 Corinthians 1:26-30 NASBbut God has chosen the foolish things of the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to shame the things which are strong, and the insignificant things of the world and the despised God has chosen, the things that are not, so that He may nullify the things that are, so that no human may boast before God.
What I learned
I loved how the author used examples from Scripture to support her point: no human is worthy of God’s choosing or blessing. We are all fallen, all incapable of proving ourselves to Him, and that’s okay! Because just like Katniss had Cinna to bet on her, God chooses us in spite of our flaws. Yeah! Praise God!
