Finding God in the Hunger Games, Day 5

Happy New Year, friends, and welcome to a new series of blog posts! I love the Hunger Games series more than any other fictional series, ever since I read it for the first time over Thanksgiving break in middle school. I found this super cool devotional several years ago called Finding God in the Hunger Games, and I’m finally working through it. I’ll be sharing what I learn from each of the thirty-day devotional readings, and applying what I learn using my very own Katniss-inspired prayer journal. Hope you enjoy!

Day 5

Day 5 of this devotional is called “There is Nothing Greater Than Unconditional Love,” and I knew immediately it was going to be a good one. How did I know? It features two of the best things ever: a verse from Isaiah that you may be familiar with, and my all-time ultimate OTP, Everlark.

Verse of the Day

“For the mountains may be removed and the hills may shake, But My favor will not be removed from you, Nor will My covenant of peace be shaken,” Says the LORD who has compassion on you.

Isaiah 54:10 NASB

What I learned

The main point of today’s devotional reading is one I’ve thought about many times over the years: Peeta’s unconditional love for Katniss, including when she’s indifferent at best and trying to kill him at worst, is a picture of God’s unconditional love for us. When we think we don’t need God’s love to survive, we forget to devote ourselves to him. Our love is dependent, conditional and fickle. God’s love is pure and steadfast” (from page 19). I love this so much, I’ve written at least one other post just about the topic of Everlark and how much I love their story: Everlark and Peeta’s lovingkindness
