I mentioned in a previous post that being a broke college student amplifies the blessing of receiving a gift you couldn’t buy for yourself. If you’re a crafty college student, or the relative of one, this list will show you some Christmas gift ideas that are sure to be a success. Some are things I’ve received in the past, and some are on my current list. Enjoy!
1. Writing Utensils
You can never go wrong with a good set of pens. I especially enjoy the Jelly Roll type, but Tombow brush pens, Pigma microns, and even a good set of Pilot G2s or Papermate Flairs are a good choice as well.
2. Koi Watercolor Set
One of my prized possessions when I first started Bible journaling was my Koi watercolor set. It comes with 24 beautiful colors and a water brush! This makes it a perfect set to start or continue a crafty habit. This brand also has a set of watercolor brush pens that I’ve been dying to tryeee!!
3. Embossing Tool and Accessories
A higher-priced item that many crafty girls would love is the Ranger embossing tool and all its accessories. This tool allows you to stamp images with clear, sticky ink, dust a shiny or colorful powder over them, and then seal the powder with heat to create a 3-D effect. An excellent choice for crafty girls who love scrapbooking or Bible journaling. Here’s a kit I found on Amazon with all the bells and whistles.
4. Foil Quill Pens
One of my current favorite supplies is the Foil Quill pens from American Crafts. It’s a similar concept to the embossing tool, but instead of stamping, you use the pens to transfer pieces of foil onto the page. This tool works great on paper, plastic, and even book covers! I’ve found this tool for less than $20 on Amazon, and it would be a great Christmas gift idea for the crafty college girl in your life. Just don’t forget the foil sheets!
5. Acrylograph Paint Pens
This item is on my current Christmas wish list as a crafty college girl. These pens give the consistency of acrylic paint, but with the versatility and ease of use that a pen would provide. The results I’ve seen of the Acrylograph pens from Archer and Olive on YouTube have been amazing, and I would love to add these to my collection. Here’s a high-reviewed version on Amazon.
6. A New Planner or Bullet Journal
A new planner or bullet journal is an almost guaranteed success as a Christmas gift idea for the crafty college student in your life. Planning is a great way to keep track of assignments and responsibilities, and adding a personal twist helps keep the habit strong. Many college girls also enjoy bullet journaling. Here’s a few examples from The Happy Planner, Paper House, and Bloom Daily, and a popular dot grid notebook.
7. Planner Stickers
Planners and planner stickers are as perfect for each other as Katniss and Peeta (or the ship of your choice). The most common and popular brand comes from The Happy Planner, although you will be able to find other brands on Amazon. Paper House Productions also has an amazing line of fandom-inspired planner products!!
8. Craft Supply Storage
As a broke (or mostly broke) college student, storing my craft supplies isn’t super high on my priorities list. I prefer to use my funds to buy more supplies to use. Giving your crafty girl a storage device that is functional and beautiful will give her the gift of organization and you the gift of sanity. Illustrated Faith has an excellent bag designed for Bible journaling, or you can find more options on Amazon.
9. A Journaling Bible
If you are a believer, then a journaling Bible may be the best gift to give your crafty girl. I started Bible journaling in 2017 after receiving a journaling Bible for Christmas, and this habit changed my life for the better. For most, a single-column, wide-margin Bible may be the best choice, though I am also partial to the ESV Scripture Journals. You can find out more about the different types of journaling Bibles in this post.
10. Bible Journaling Accessories
As with planners and planner stickers, Bible journaling comes with a wide variety of accessories and tools. Some good basics include washi tape, stickers, and the aforementioned writing utensils. I would also recommend a Bible journaling kit, which comes with a small devotional book, stickers, and sometimes other accessories. Illustrated Faith, ByTheWell4God, Open Journey, and Creative Faith Co. all offer kits at various price points.
11. A Devotional Book
A third idea for the crafty faith girl in your life is a devotional book. Illustrated Faith has released a series of 100 day devotions, filled with beautiful illustrations and invitations to create. I would also recommend 100 Days to Brave, or the new Faith Book from Illustrated Faith, which is also on my personal wish list. Gifting your crafty girl with a devotional book will give them a great way to start the new year.
12. When All Else Fails… Gift Cards!!
Finally, if none of these ideas ring true to you, or if you’ve simply run out of time to order things, a gift card is always appreciated. Beyond the monetary value, a gift card gives your crafty girl the opportunity to take a trip to her favorite craft store (or other store of your choice) without worrying about their ability to buy things. Looking at pretty things may be fun, but being able to take some home is even better.
Thank you for taking the time to read this post. I hope that this list was helpful for you. If you’re a crafty girl, don’t be afraid to ask for things you truly wish for, and if you’re a loved one, take heart; we tend to be easy to please. If this post did help in some way, please do me a solid and share with all your peeps.
Happy college!
