Philippians 4:8 studies, day seven – “Excellent”

On the seventh day of 2026, we proclaim the excellencies of Philippians 4:8 for the seventh time this year ; )

There are only two verses that use the exact word translated as “excellence” in Philippians 4:8, each from one of the apostle Peter’s letters. 1 Peter 2:9 is so beautiful, and I will likely be dissecting it at a later date, but for now I just want to highlight the fact that all of the titles bestowed on us, which are callbacks to the Old Testament promises to Israel, are given so that we might praise and glorify the One who gave them to us.

In 2 Peter 1:3, we are assured that, in Christ, God has given us everything we need to live and to live Godly lives. Because we know that our actions don’t determine our salvation, but do impact our relationship with the Lord and our witness to others, we aim to grow in the excellence we are called to

.

Today, I want to aim for excellence in everything I do, from stacking chairs at work to folding laundry at home.

Happy January!
