Today is day sixth day of 2026, and the sixth day of admiring all that Philippians 4:8 has to offer us.
Today’s word is Commendable, which other translations render as Admirable. It has the idea of being above reproach, viewed as a generally decent person by those around you. Like the word “honorable” from a few days ago, this word encourages us to build rapport with the people around us. Genuine respect from non-believers is one of the most powerful evangelism tools we have.
I included the surrounding context of today’s key verse because I appreciated the ESV study note that God cares about our inner life of faith and the way we behave around others. One will affect our personal relationship with the Lord, and the other our witness towards others. This passage also encourages us to pay attention to the “native language” of the people we’re around, allowing for different approaches with the same Gospel message. I love this so much, because it affirms my mission to speak to all the fangirls/fanpeople here on the internets with the message of the Gospel, shining through our favorite stories and songs.
And as a matter of fact, Colossians 4:6 is one of the first verses that reminded me of a fandom: “You have no idea, the effect you can have” (Peeta @ Katniss, from the Hunger Games series, which I could literally talk about all day lol).
It’s true, though! I have no idea what effect my words and actions have on others; I can only hope they make some kind of difference for good, Lord willing.
