Welcome back to another Song Lyric Sunday post! This week’s topic is News, Communication, Message, Telephone, etc. and I couldn’t help but think of my favorite artist in the history of the universe, Owl City. Aaaaaaand Bruno Mars might sneak in uninvited as well. Enjoy!
Owl City – “Metropolis”
The first song I think of for this prompt is “Metropolis” by Owl City. This song is from the 2012 album “The Midsummer Station, which means I was in eighth grade when I heard it for the first time. Ahhhh, teenage years :). The album isn’t my favorite that Owl City has made; I’m a bigger fan of the older songs and the newest album, “Cinematic,” which came out in 2019, but “Metropolis” is easily one of my favorites from this album.
“So far apart, I check that the coast was clear/ I feel like a postcard, I wish you were here.”
Owl City, “Metropolis”
Ever wonder what happened to Owl City? Here’s a post with a brand-new song released on January 1, 2021!!

“Payphone” by Maroon 5 (Clean Version)
The other song that popped up unbidden as soon as the word “Telephone” crossed my mind was “Payphone” by Maroon 5 (not Bruno Mars lol). This is the perfect “I-loved-you-what-happened” kind of song with a mix of nostalgia and saltiness. It was also hugely popular in the 2010s and STILL gets stuck in my head to this day.
“I’m at a payphone, trying to call home, all of my change I spent on you…”
Maroon 5, “Payphone” (still not Bruno Mars 😆)
Here’s a post with another beloved Maroon 5 song 🌹

I love both songs. I love the vocals for Maroon 5 (even though I heard he is a jerk). And I love the soothing pop-rock vibes from the Owl City tune. Nice choices!
