This week, I was going to write about music I heard at work… BUT THEN I JUST FOUND OUT THAT OWL CITY RELEASED A NEW SONG AND I’M SO EXCITED ABOUT IT THAT EVERY OTHER SONG WILL JUST HAVE TO WAIT 😆🤩😻. So yeah… Here’s Owl City’s new song 2021. Enjoy!
“Jesus Freak – Owl City Remix” by DC Talk + Owl City
Yes, this is the new song that Owl City released today, January 1. As soon as I heard about it, I rushed to listen to it on repeat, and it hasn’t disappointed me. I would never expect Adam Young’s dreamy and whimsical style to work so well with DC Talk, but somehow… it does! And it’s totally EPIC!
Honestly, I’m probably a little biased since I’m already a superfan and have been waiting sooooooo long for a new song, but this really is a super cool song.
The instrumental styles we’ve grown to love from the scores project and Cinematic, the electric guitar and magical chimes and strings, combine with the old-style Christian hip-hop style of “Jesus Freak” and create an entirely new musical experience. It reminds me of the times Owl City has collaborated with Tobymac: the two styles of music have a give and take to them, weaving in and out of each other in a beautiful tapestry.

The song starts out with the well known scratchy record sound, and the volume is slightly muted, so when it fully kicks in, it’s extra powerful. And this continues through the whole song. One of my favorite parts happens at the bridge, when the guitars quiet down and leave room for a softer mix of piano, strings, and that magical chimes run… followed by an extra super epic guitar solo!!! Seriously this song makes me want to jump around and maniacally headbang, which is typical of the best Owl City songs 😆😎😹
