One of the things I’ve started doing as part of my daily bullet journal setup is make a playlist of songs that I listen to and enjoy throughout the day. Tracking this gives me an insight into my mood that day, but is also just a fun thing to look back on. Here are some songs I’ve been jamming to this week:
[spbsm-follow-buttons]“Underdog” by Alicia Keys
This is one of Alicia Keys’ more chill songs, and one that I greatly enjoy. Her amazing vocals stand out against the simple backing track and acoustic guitar. The song has an energetic feel, but toned down a bit from others like “Girl on Fire.” My favorite lyrics from this song: “One conversation, a simple moment, the things that change us, when we notice, when we look up sometimes.”
“Butterfly Waltz” (the version I know is by Brian Crain)
My ballet teacher played this song on Wednesday in class. She told us to imagine that we were presenting ourselves in the court of a royal figure for tea, and that mental image went so well with the songs delicate piano/violin combo and the step we were practicing, called balancé, which is one of my all-time favorites! If you’re a fan of instrumental musics, this song is definitely one for you.
“Adore You” by Harry Styles
Another popular song that most people have probably heard of, but I love hearing pop songs with beautiful/adorable/sweet/uplifting lyrics that I can fully support in addition to catchy melodies. This song definitely fits into that category, with the lyrics “walk through fire for you, just let me adore you” that remind me of Isaiah 43:1-4. The music style is also reminiscent of some “old school” hits, which I always appreciate.
“Eternity” by Adam Young and Paul van Dyke
This song has been on repeat the entire second half of this week. In case you don’t know (and I’ll probably mention it many, many more times), Adam Young is a musical artist most known for his creation of Owl City, but he has also made literally thousands of songs under various names. This song is one of his more recent ones, a collab between a dubstep, dance-ish style artist and his beautiful, airy vocals. The electronic touches in the musical track also have Adam’s signature on them. This song is a beautiful example of Adam’s ability to combine his own dreamy, whimsical style with the more modern, upbeat techniques of Paul van Dyke.
I didn’t write down that many more songs this week, so I guess that’s all for now. Hope you enjoyed these songs, and definitely go look them up if I’ve peaked your interest. Happy jamming!
