Bible Journal the Rainbow with me – Green

Happy Friday, friends, and welcome to another Bible Journal the Rainbow with me post! This week’s color, and all the others in this series, were originally inspired by a collection from Illustrated Faith. It’s also a way to revisit a study/series of my own creation from several months ago. Hope you enjoy!

Bible journal the rainbow – green and turquoise

Illustrated Faith’s Journal the Rainbow series defines green in this way:

Green is usually used to describe vegetation and symbolize life. It means eternal life, growth, and flourishing.

The secular source I’ve been using for this series observes:

The color of harmony and health. green is a generous, relaxing color that revitalizes our body and mind. It balances our emotions and leaves us feeling safe and secure. It also gives us hope, with promises of growth and prosperity.

The Scripture-based source for this study says,

Green is the color usually associated with vegetation, usually representing life. Cedar trees were popular and valued as building material, also playing some role in the purification rites of Israel. Cedars represented power, wealth, growth, and strength. Associated with the evergreen that doesn’t lose its foliage, green represents eternal life, restoration, and new beginnings.

Turquoise, a variation of green, is described in this way:

The color of calmness and clarity. Turquoise stabilizes emotions and increases empathy and compassion. It emits a cool, calming peace, improves concentration and clarifies the mind.

And now, to the Bible journaling process!

Bible journal the rainbow – green

The first step in this week’s Bible journal the rainbow process is to lay down a background of acrylic paint. Since there are a vast variety of shades and tones of green, I used splotches of several different shades in three different places around the page. I chose to use Jeremiah 17:7-8, which describes the blessings of trusting God, for this week’s page. I also chose to cover some of the words in the interest of highlighting the specific passage of Scripture I was focusing on in this particular Bible on this particular day of study. While painting, I also read and reflected on the rest of the passage and what it means.

The next step is to add the main idea of what I learned from this week’s color meaning study on green. I used a darker shade of green brush pen to do this, then added some more notes below. I also highlighted the key verses that I was focusing on in today’s study.

Finally, I added some stickers from my Pipsticks subscription pack to finish out the page and add some color and detail. Now whenever I see something green, it will become a reminder of the eternal life that God provides to those who believe and trust in Him!

As I was journaling on the meaning of the color green in Jeremiah 17, I was drawn to the verse further down in the passage which says, “Heal me, Lord, and I will be healed; save me, and I will be saved, for you are my praise” (CSB). This verse made me think of the color meaning of turquoise which we learned about earlier in this post. And, since I have some lovely turquoise paints in my supply as well, I decided to make this a two-page spread! I love how the colors look together, and the way that the two ideas from Jeremiah work together.

This week’s color meaning study on green has added another level to my understanding of how colors are used in the Bible. I’ve always associated this color with growth and the new life we have in Christ, which to me is connected with the idea of being a Student or Seeker of the Lord. We are all called to pursue and be pursued by the Lord as we read His Word and talk to Him daily.

You can find out more about this idea here!

I hope you’ve enjoyed this week’s Bible journal the rainbow post. What does the color green mean to you? I’d love to know!

Happy journaling!
