Happy Women’s Equality Day, friends, and welcome to a special Bible journal with me post! I was actually researching a different topic that’s been on my heart for a while, and ended up re-reading a blog post that I wrote a couple years ago. Turns out the Lord had some good things to say back then, and I decided to re-learn and reflect on that topic today. Hope you enjoy!
The Scripture – Proverbs 31:10-31
At the end of summer 2021, I received an ESV Study Bible as a gift for serving at a camp all summer long. I love this Bible so much, and I’m so grateful; it has SO MANY good things in it!! A few weeks later, I was studying Proverbs 31 to go along with “A Girl Worth Fighting For” from Disney’s Mulan. There were so many good things there!
Here’s the original blog post : )
So today, I just wanted to re-write and learn what I took away from my Proverbs 31 Bible study that year.
The process – Bible journal with me in Proverbs 31
The first step in today’s process is to take advantage of all the space! Since chapter 31 is the last one in the book of Proverbs, there is almost an entire page that I got to fill with artwork and journaling. I took my “P31 woman” tag-necklace (a character award from the same camp where I got my Bible!!) and draped it on the page. Then I lightly traced it with an erasable colored pencil. I added the Dragon Medallion shape from Mulan to symbolize the moment when Mulan’s bravery is recognized by the Emperor himself. I love the way that this very personal symbol overlaps with the imagery of a fandom!
Next, I filled in the entire background with a turquoise-colored gouache paint. After outlining the drawing with a waterproof fineliner pen, I also added the pink color of the tag.
Next up is to add the main takeaway from the study/post that I wanted to remember. I used the brush side of a Tombow marker to write the main idea, and the bullet side to add the details.
The other side of this page has most of the passage I studied today, so I used a ton of different markers to highlight and write down the other main points. I really enjoy seeing the whole passage all marked up and underlined!
Bonus step: I wanted to include these two character stickers that I have, but didn’t have any room left on the page! I fixed this by adding in a couple of acetate-style tip-ins. For each one, I cut out a piece of clear plastic packaging, painted it with some coordinating acrylic paint, and put the sticker over it after the paint dried. This is also a great way to add some dimension to your page!
Conclusion
I really enjoyed this Bible journaling page in Proverbs 31, and I hope you did too. Turns out you can learn from anyone, including yourself! Women’s Equality Day is a great time to examine our identity as women and where we can better serve those around us who need it most.
What have you learned about what it means to be a woman of God? I’d love to know!
Happy journaling!
