Bible Journal the Rainbow – Pink and Red

Happy, Friday, my friends, and welcome to a new Bible journaling series! I was inspired by an Illustrated Faith printable set to study each color of the rainbow and what it symbolizes in the Bible. This also reminds me of a project/study of my own making from a few months ago. Hope you enjoy!

Journal the Rainbow – Pink

A few years ago, a Bible journaling company that I follow (and regularly purchase from) released a series of printables called Journal the Rainbow. It has several different kits, each specializing in a different color with lots of cute illustrations. I enjoyed thinking about what each color symbolizes, and the idea has stuck with me even years later. Here’s what the printable kit had to say about the meaning of pink, red, and white in the Bible:

  • Red = sin, the blood of Christ, and salvation
  • White = holiness and purity, the redemption of sin
  • Pink = Red + White, indicating a persons right relationship with God.

Now let’s take this just a little bit deeper, shall we?

Studying the meaning of color – pink and red

Here’s what a secular/non-Biblical website had to say about the colors red, white, and pink

The color of love and compassion. Pink is kind and comforting, full of sympathy and compassion, and makes us feel accepted. Its friendly, playful spirit calms and nurtures us, bringing joy and warmth into our lives.

The color of passion and energy, red draws attention like no other color and radiates a strong and powerful energy that motivates us to take action.

The color of purity and innocence. White is a true balance of all colors. It is associated with cleanliness, simplicity, and perfection. It loves to make others feel good and provides hope and clarity by refreshing and purifying the mind.

From a Scripture-inspired website, I found the following additional notes:

  • Red is the color of blood/sacrifice and sometimes humanity, symbolized by red clay
  • scarlet can symbolize either sin or royalty
  • white also symbolizes the absolute purity of God, His laws and judgements, and His absolute victory over sin

Okay, there is SO MUCH goodness to unpack here! For today’s journaling process, I chose to focus on Isaiah 1:18. Here it is in the NASB translation:

“Come now, and let us debate [your case,]” Says the LORD, “Though your sins are as scarlet, They shall become as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, They shall be like wool.

Isaiah 1:18 NASB20

Bible journal the rainbow: pink, red, and white

The first step in my Bible journaling process today is to lay down a background using acrylic paint. I went for an ombre affect with red at the top, white at the bottom, and pink in the middle. I did decide to cover the words with this page, as I wanted the color and the take-aways that I had to be prominent, but you could very easily replicate this process without covering any of the text. I also have SO many other Bibles, including a Scripture journal dedicated to the book of Isaiah alone, so covering some of this passage in this Bible didn’t bother me too much.

Step two is to add some washi tape in three little clusters around the page, followed by a summary of what I learned. I included a statement about the meaning of pink, symbolizing the right relationship we have with God through the blood of Christ, and some cross-references that I found as well. I also added a bit of journaling in response to what I learned.

Finally, I topped off this page with some stickers from a Pipsticks subscription pack. The stickers themselves have nothing to do with faith or the Bible, but I enjoyed using these sheets that focus on each color of the rainbow. It’s a fun way of pointing out that all the pink things in my life can now become reminders of what I learned from this Bible journaling process.

My rainbow project – Wings

Around this time last summer, I started thinking about our identity in Christ and its many facets. This was inspired by a pair of butterfly wings that I received as a gift, and grew into a four-part study called Wings. Each of the four identities or personas that are included in this study has two colors associated with it, along with many Bible verses and some characters from my favorite books and movies that I feel embody some of the characteristics of that persona.

This week’s color, pink/red, coincides with the Bride character from the Wings study. I love how the passion of red, purity of white, and warmth of pink work together with the idea of being the wholly loved, pure and redeemed Bride of Christ. I hope you’ve enjoyed today’s Bible journal the rainbow with me process today! I’m really enjoying looking into the symbolism and meaning of each color, both culturally and in the Bible.
