Hufflepuff Bible Verses: How Hufflepuff is Important to the Kingdom

It’s episode three of The Gospel According to Harry Potter! This week, we’re focusing on Hufflepuff Bible verses. Enjoy!

Fandom: Hufflepuff house and its distinguishing characteristics

Verses:

Nugget: Hufflepuff characteristics are valuable to the Kingdom of God.

Patience

Hufflepuff is arguably the most underrated of all the houses, so I’m trying to go for less common characteristics. With that said, patience is an excellent way to describe Hufflepuff house (and my friends who are Hufflepuffs as well). They are patient not only with other humans, but also with themselves, and even God. They are also patient in difficulty for the sake of the Gospel, regardless of the apparent delay in God’s timing. Here are some verses that match with this characteristic of Hufflepuff:

  • ” May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude toward each other that Jesus Christ had.” Romans 15:5
  • “You also must be patient. Keep your hopes high, for the day of the Lord’s coming is near.” James 5:8
  • “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” Galatians 6:9

Generosity

Another trait of Hufflepuff house is that of generosity. The Hufflepuffs I know are generous not only with finances, but with time and energy (and foooooood!). From the perspective of a Ravenclaw who is continually conscious of how much energy I have left to give, this is an invaluable trait. It’s also highly Biblical, of course, and part of the “others-centered” life that we’re called to live in Jesus. Here are some Hufflepuff Bible verses that line up with this trait:

  • “Judge not, and you will not be judged; condemn not, and you will nnot be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.” Luke 6:37-38
  • “Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” Galatians 6:2
  • “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.” Colossians 3:23-24

Loyalty

This one is a bit more common of the Hufflepuff traits, but it’s still worth a mention. I read something on Pinterest that described Hufflepuffs as soft and cuddly… until you mess with their people, in which case they will attack you (or something to that effect). Here are some Bible verses that line up with this characteristic:

  • “A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.” Proverbs 17:17
  • “Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.” John 15:13
  • But Ittai answered the king, “As the Lord lives, and as my lord the king lives, wherever my lord the king shall be, whether for death or for life, there also will your servant be.” 2 Samuel 15:21
  • “If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored, all rejoice together.” 1 Corinthians 12:26

Honesty

Even though Gryffindor is most often associated with bravery, it takes a special kind of courage to be honest, whether to someone threatening or to someone close to you. But it’s also one of the best ways to show love to someone, and that’s right up Hufflepuff’s alley. Here are some Bible verses that show the importance of being honest:

  • “And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:32
  • “Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator.” Colossians 3:9-10
  • “Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all… If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” Romans 12:17-21
  • “Wounds from a friend can be trusted, but an enemy multiplies kisses.” Proverbs 27:6

Many thanks for taking the time to read this post. Have I done Hufflepuff house justice? If you think I did, please do me a solid and share with all your peeps. And let me know what house you are!
