I’m just going to put on a sad song – a review of pretty much every song by JVKE

Hello, musical friends, and welcome to another post! I saw a video on Instagram of the artist known as JVKE doing a cover of a worship song this past week. Since I love a good Christian artist who just makes beautiful music, I immediately binged all of his music Is JVKE a Christian? Only he and God know for sure… Keep reading for my thoughts on his music🎶

review of basically every song by JVKE

If you’ve heard of JVKE, it’s probably because you’ve heard his songs on TikTok and Instagram reels. At first, this made me curious and a little excited, because for a Christian artist to have that big of a platform would be amazing!

And it’s not without reason that JVKE’s songs are so popular – the instrumentation is absolutely beautiful. The piano lines with the rolling progressions (IDK the technical term for it lol) and a hint of violin and some synthy-electronic sounds in places… Yes, they were STUNNING, especially with headphones on. Some of his songs remind me of Owl City, which is high praise coming from a superfan such as myself.

The lyrics are pretty nice too, for the most part. JVKE is one of those artists that have a talent for expressing all of the emotions, positive and negative, in a really beautiful way. And I can appreciate some I’m-just-feeling-sad kind of songs. Some of them would have really hit different for me when I was going through my first break-up a few years ago.

But the thing that sets JVKE’s songs apart from Owl City’s is the fact that there was no hint of hope in them. There are some Owl City songs that are really, honestly, I’m-just-feeling-sad kind of songs, but at the very least, there’s another song within the same album that has a more hopeful feel to it. All of the JVKE songs that I heard were very much in-my-feels type of songs, either I’m-in-love or sad-boi-hours. Again, there is some value to this kind of song, but I kind of wished that JVKE had included one or two of the things-aren’t-great-but-I’ll-be-okay-eventually kind of songs that Owl City has.

Overall, JVKE is a pretty great artist, and I’m still curious about his beliefs. I’d love to see him express them more clearly in a future song! Once again, someone like him who has a mainstream platform like this could do a lot of good.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this post reviewing pretty much every song by JVKE. Do you listen to his music outside of reels or TikTok videos? What do you think?

Happy listening!
