Process & Thoughts – Labor Day Bible Journaling
I wanted this to be a super simple but also satisfying page, and what’s more satisfying than glitter and rainbows? Couldn’t decide between solid glitter and pastel rainbow for the piano keys, so I went with one on the top half of the page and the other on the bottom. I definitely prefer the pastel now that I’m looking at the finished page 🤍
Here’s another Bible journaling post I think you’ll love!
Thoughts on the verse
While studying the book of Joshua I came across this comment in my ESV Study Bible: “Rest means freedom from threat, the enjoyment of one’s inheritance, security within the land, and all-around well-being.” I love this definition of rest as more than just sleep, relaxation or inactivity. This idea encompasses freedom from worry, mental stability, and spiritual security. And we can have this rest in Jesus!
“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matt. 11:28-30
In the Hebrew context, a yoke was the teaching of a rabbi. In our case, the yoke that Jesus is talking about is the teaching of the Bible; because Jesus is the Word of God, He is present in every part of the Bible. And while it may seem daunting to take on and follow all of the Bible’s teachings, it really boils down to a few simple steps:
- Love God with everything you have (Mark 12:30
- Follow and submit to the lordship of His Son (1 John 3:23)
- Love one another as He has loved us (John 15:12)
- Spread the Word to the people He loves, aka, everyone you are in contact with (Matthew 28:20)
Notice the choice of words here: while these things are simple, they aren’t necessarily easy. Which is why God promises to be with us through every moment, every difficulty and every choice to follow Him. And His grace is more than enough to cover our failures and inadequacies. Praise God!
I hope you’ve enjoyed this mini Labor Day Bible journaling post. Happy Labor Day!
