Happy Monday, friends! On the tail end of Valentine’s Day weekend, I bring you my list of all the fictional characters the are absolutely OTP (one true pairing) in my eyes. Since I’m happily single in real life, gushing over their love is a fantastic way to feel all the feels without feeling sad about my lack of a partner. Enjoy!
Everlark
First and foremost is Everlark, aka Katniss Everdeen + Peeta Mellark. I ship them soooo much, and it makes me happy every time I read the books or watch the movies to see them finally end up together.
Although his initial crush on Katniss is a little creepy, Peeta is there for her through everything they go through. They have the bond that can only be gained by shared traumatic experiences, and end up being willing to die for each other. Peeta never pushes Katniss to respond to his affection for her, which I so appreciate. And for anyone who might be Team Gale, I say that Katniss could never be with him with the possibility of his involvement in Prim’s death. It’s just not going to happen, sorry.
Percybeth
A close second on my list of ultimate OTPs is Percy Jackson + Annabeth Chase. Their romance takes FIVE YEARS to finally become canon, and honestly that’s the best kind of ship. They’re also the classic frenemies-to-friends-to-more-than-friends trope that I absolutely adore, and Rick Riordan develops this SO WELL over the course of the entire series. I mean, they LITERALLY walked through hell (the Greek kind) together and made it out the other side; if that’s not love, then I don’t know what is.
Shirbert
Next up is Anne Shirley Cuthbert + Gilbert Blythe. I loved them when I read the books in middle school, and I love them even more now after watching the series on Netflix (just finished watching it in Spanish– SO ADORABLE!!). They have so much chemistry in the series right from the beginning, but I especially love the awkward we’re-friends-but-we-like-each-other thing that develops in Season 3. The last two episodes literally had me on the edge of my seat DYING OF SUSPENSE because I needed them to get together by the end of the season. And when they do, it’s so beautiful…😻🤩
Romione
I can’t list all the OTPs and not include Ron Weasley + Hermione Granger. I respect everyone who ships her and Draco, but c’mon. She and Ron are made for each other. They take even longer to realize it than Percy and Annabeth, but we all knew it from the beginning. He respects her intelligence and independence, and she needs his humor to keep her spirits up during OWL season. It’s a match made in Hogwarts Heaven ☺
Caleo
Another pairing from the PJO universe is Calypso + Leo Valdez. Leo is probably my favorite character from the HoO series, and I will admit my teenage self had a bit of a crush the first couple times I read it. His humor style is excellent, but also the ability to make cool and useful gadgets out of random objects is just what Calypso needs, which is why I ship them so much. Despite his outward “all the ladies love Leo” attitude, he does end up being the seventh wheel through most of the series, so I’m so happy he ends up finding a person, and proving himself worthy by being the ONE MAN WHO CARES ABOUT CALYPSO ENOUGH TO ACTUALLY GO FIND HER. I do, however, appreciate the later decision of Calypso to take a step back in order to better adjust to the mortal world. Strong independent woman FTW 😎
Liliel (Lily + Dashiel)
One of the newer ships on this list is Dashiell + Lily (can’t remember their last names, forgive me lol). Their whole story is my LIFE GOAL when it comes to a relationship. I have definitely considered writing clues in a notebook and leaving it in a bookstore somewhere, but of course it almost certainly would NOT work out in real life. Sigh…
Aangtara
Another new one for me is Aang + Katara from ATLA. I just discovered the series this past fall, but since it came out I’ve watched the entire thing not once but TWICE and I’m absolutely OBSESSED 😻. Zuko is probably my favorite character, but Aang and Katara are the cutest sweet innocent adolescent romance EVER. Like Katniss and Peeta, they have a bond formed by traveling the world and fighting in a war, they’re best friends, and they make a great team. Plus the fact that they end up together gives me hope somehow that having a crush on someone doesn’t always end in heartbreak 😅😹💖
LJC + JAM
And last but not least, we have Lara Jean Covey + John Ambrose McClaren. This is only in the context of the books, since I subscribe to the fan theory that the movie writers wrote the movie plot differently based on the fact that the actors have actual real life chemistry, and so I’m okay with Peter + Lara Jean in the movies. Comma however, in the books John Ambrose seems to fit much better with Lara Jean’s personality. He doesn’t bring the emotional baggage that Peter has, and while I don’t quite remember the details of the books, I do remember thinking that they were more compatible than Peter and Lara Jean. Sorry, not sorry 😁
