Saturday Shuffle #16: the one where I love sweet innocent romantic songs (and a little salt for good measure)

Welcome back to the Saturday Shuffle with que Lo Kayslee and The Fangirl Fulfilled! This week I’m all about the sweet innocent romantic songs, which is partly because of Valentine’s Day tomorrow, but mostly caused by the release of To All the Boys: Always and Forever yesterday (sooooo goooood!!!). Enjoy!

“Happy Now” by Zedd + Elley Duhe

This song doesn’t exactly match the “sweet innocent romantic songs” mold, but it is ideal for being single on Valentine’s Day with its mildly salty tone. The song begins with a guitar line, then adds the beautiful vocals of Elley Duhe, coming to a climax with the electronic details and effects added later on. Perfect for singing as loudly as humanly possible in the shower before happily devouring an entire jar of Nutella and binging a show on Netflix.

“Irreplaceable” by Beyonce

Okay, I promise the happy romance is coming, but here’s another song for those of us who are newly single this Valentine’s Day. Beyonce’s powerful vocals are a perfect mix with the old-school instrumental of the song (you know, the boom, clap, boomclap style). No matter how many years go by, this song will never get old. “To the left, to the left…”

“FourFiveSeconds” by Rihanna + Kanye West + Paul McCartney

Fun fact: this song blends SUPER amazing with “Irreplaceable. So cool! Anyway, I got it stuck in my head this week, and I’m not complaining. The pacing, vocals, and instrumentals are the perfect blend of optimism and disillusionment that fit this day and age ever so well.

“Then He Kissed Me” by The Crystals

Here we are, finally, at the sweet innocent romantic side of this playlist. A classic rock and roll song with a chorus of female vocals floating over tambourine, strings, and drums and the euphoric refrain of “and then he kissed me” repeated throughout. This song is so good, it made me want to dance around the room and swoon just like Lara Jean, despite the fact that I am very, very single. So good!

“Lemonade” by Chris Rice

Another sweet innocent romantic song, this one coming to you straight from my sixth grade MP3 player (it was tiny and purple πŸ’œ). Chris Rice has a very chill, laid back style, with acoustic guitar, drums, and lots of harmony and pure vowels. Goodness, he’s so adorable, or at least the lyrics of this song are so adorable, describing the blessings of life and the thrill of asking someone to marry him. Honestly, this whole album is perfect for Valentine’s weekend. So sweet!

“About Love” by MARINA

I used this song to make a TikTok/Instagram reel video this week, and it instantly reminded me of the TATBILB universe. It’s almost as though it was written specifically for this purpose… 😜😁😎 Lyrics of happy newly-lovestruck bliss and a super catchy tune make this the perfect song to wrap up a beautiful movie, and this playlist.

Hope you’ve enjoyed this collection of sweet romantic songs for Valentine’s Day weekend. If you did, please do me a solid and share with all your peeps using the graphic below. And let me know if you’ll be joining in on the masses of people I’m sure will be enjoying the new To All the Boys movie this weekend!

Happy Saturday!
