Saturday Shuffle #17: the one where Ariana Grande wrote some beautiful songs

Welcome back to another Saturday Shuffle! This week I discovered two pop songs that go surprisingly well together and an Ariana Grande song that just hit different for some reason. I think I might be a bit of a fan of hers now… Enjoy!

“Can’t Feel My Face” by the Weeknd + “Can’t Stop the Feeling” by Justin Timberlake

Another product of me, in a room, left to my own devices for four hours straight. The chorus of “Can’t Feel My Face” plus the “Can’t stop the feeling” refrain go so well together in my brain, and I would actually pay money to hear someone blend them in real life. Just saying πŸ˜†πŸ˜Ž. On their own, the songs are super cool also, with the characteristic dance-alongable pop music of the 2010s.

“They Don’t Know” by Ariana Grande

A more upbeat number from Ariana Grande, this one featured in the soundtrack of one of the Trolls movies. The song has a classic pop feel, with a catchy chorus and cool bass lines. In the middle it slows down and switches up a little which is cool. Perfect for getting ready in the morning or for an afternoon drive with a friend.

“High Hopes” by Panic! At the Disco

I understand now why this group is so wildly popular after listening to this song. It has so many layers to it, it’s amazing! First you have the main lead vocal, which is the classic high-range male voice. Then you add the horns and the snare drums and a hint of strings, which fluctuate between hard-hitting hype at the chorus and soft, vulnerable moments for an awesome listening experience. Call me breezy, because I’m definitely a fan of this song.

“Wings” by Little Mix

This song is the perfect blend of sassy and uplifting. The pep-rally tempo and strong female vocals combine for a heady mix you can’t help but sing and/or dance along to. “Mama told me not to waste my life, she said spread your wings my little butterfly…” There’s a nice almost-acapella section right near the end that gives you the feeling of being in a packed concert arena with everyone singing and clapping and not feeling self-conscious at all, which is a nice feeling to imagine right now.

“Me And My Broken Heart” by Rixton

Another classic pop anthem, this time with a male lead and a more heartfelt tone. This artist has my favorite kind of male vocals, with a high range and a little bit of breathiness that gives it the perfect amount of emotional expression without sounding weak. The chorus of the song is catchy, with woahs sprinkled liberally throughout. Ideal for shower sings or solo air guitar runs.

“pov” by Ariana Grande

This song is absolutely beautiful, both on a human level and as a fandom nugget (*squeals*). The minor key gives it a vulnerable tone that fits so beautifully with Ariana’s vocals, which alternate between breathy low notes and soaring highs. And the little bit of drums give it just the right amount of texture. But the lyrics though… “I want to love me the way that you love me… Learning to believe in what is mine…” SOO GOOD!!!

Hope you’ve enjoyed this weeks Saturday Shuffle! If you did, please do me a solid and share with all your peeps using the graphic below. And let me know which Ariana Grande songs I should listen to next!
