Saturday Shuffle #3: The one where John Legend made a song with Lecrae (and it’s epic!)

Hey, what’s up this is Que lo Kayslee, back again with another list of new songs to get you through the week in 2020. This weeks jams include Shawn Mendes, Lecrae + John Legend, Hillsong Young and Free, and of course, Owl City. Enjoy! πŸ™‚

1. “Wonder” by Shawn Mendes

I discovered this song because someone posted it in one of my fandom groups on Facebook, and I’m so glad I did. The music is beautiful, with electronic tones and “aaahhhhhs” in the background. Shawn Mendes’ voice is beautiful, light and breathy but also so full of richness and has an excellent range as well. The lyrics of this song, though, are my favorite part — honest and authentic, the best kind of song for sure. Pretty sure there’s a nugget hidden in this song, but I’ll have to listen to it a few more times to find it :). Here’s a link to the YouTube video.

2. “Drown” by Lecrae + John Legend

This song is definitely near the top of my list right now. John Legend’s incredible, expressive and distinctive vocals combine with Lecrae’s musical style and lyrics they probably collaborated on, and the result is incredible. I’m already a superfan of Lecrae, but this song makes me more fond of John Legend, whose music I’m not as familiar with. Here’s the YouTube link.

3. “Best Friends” by Hillsong Young and Free

This song has been out for a while, and I’ve enjoyed it before, but it was just hitting differently this week for some reason. the style of the music is one of my favorites, a sort of blend between rock and alternative/folk (could have that completely wrong but it’s fine XD). the “nah, nah, nah, nah” refrain especially catchy. What I really appreciate about this song is the lyrics, the idea of being sick of pretending and wanting what’s real in life. That’s a very relevant thing right now. Here’s the link.

4. “Always” by Owl City

You know I had to include at least one Owl City song in my jams list for this week. He’s just so amazing…. “Always” is one of those songs that lowkey made me cry when it first came out, because not only was the music exquisite, but the lyrics spoke directly to my heart at the time, and continue to do so now. “Listen through the rain, and you can hear the angels say/ Help is on the way the moment you begin to pray/ When the thunders roar, you don’t need to be afraid/ I’ll lead you through the storm, so please remember when I say/ I am with you always…” *not crying*

The other reason why “Always” has been in my head this week is because this week’s Fandom Nugget comes directly from the phrase “I am with you always” and how those five words sum up the entire Gospel. Go see if you’d like! Here’s the link for the song on YouTube.

Hope you’ve enjoyed this week’s Saturday Shuffle! Here’s the Spotify playlist where I’ve collected all the new songs for you to discover πŸ™‚

Happy Saturday!
