Saturday Shuffle #9: The one where I was on my phone all week

Having been sick all week (just strep, don’t worry), Que lo Kayslee has little inspiration for you today. Luckily, music is still beautiful and wonderful and amazing, and this week’s jams are no exception. Enjoy!

i wanna love somebody – We Three

This is one of the songs that seems happy based on the music track, but the lyrics are honest and sad. The main refrain is “I think I’m gonna die alone,” if that gives you an idea. The song has an excellent tone to it, with a jazzy drum-piano-acoustic-guitar feel, very catchy. Listening to more of We Three’s music, they have a vibe similar to Twenty One Pilots and the witty, random side of Owl City, which is high praise coming from me 😉

Down – Jay Sean + Lil Wayne

Something about this week made me super nostalgic for some reason. This song came up on TikTok somewhere, and I decided to give it another chance (at the time it came out, I only listened to a couple Christian artists lol). Coming at it with fresh ears, this song has a sweet love song feel to it, and I even think there may be a fandom nugget in there somewhere. “Fighting for this girl on the battlefield of love…” kind of cheesy, but still adorable, and definitely worth a listen.

Pan’s Labyrinth Lullaby – Javier Navarrete

Finally got around to watching this movie this week, and…. wow. Had I been less delirious, it probably would’ve had me all in my feels, but it was a beautiful movie all around. This song pretty well sums up the feel of the movie, with a soulful violin and haunting piano duet.

To Wonder – Stave

Another song from TikTok. @stavemusicofficial makes remixes of classic songs and it’s amazing!! He looks like he’s having so much fun in his videos, which made me extra excited to discover that he makes actual music of his own on Spotify. This song has a similar sound to some of Owl City’s music, with an electronic synth line and piano with whatever that instrument is that sounds like a cross between a guitar and a violin (lol). Again, very high praise for a very good song. Plus his bio on Spotify… such a pure and adorable human <3 ^.^

The Spotify playlist, updated weekly!

Tonight Tonight – Hot Chelle Rae

Another nostalgic hit, probably also from TikTok. A real classic, this song brought me straight back to middle school, which did have some positive moments (I guess). The song’s “it doesn’t matter, whatever,” vibe is a real mood, though not a philosophy for life. Can’t help but sing along to this song and its electronic meets rock guitar meets boy band style. “It’s alright, alright, tonight, tonight.”

The Hard Stuff – Justin Timberlake

Found this song while browsing the WordPress reader, and it reveals a side of Justin Timberlake that I didn’t know existed. A sweet, emotional side who wrote a mellow and almost R&B feeling song. The lyrics are similar to Philip Philip’s “Unpack Your Heart,” which is one of my favorite songs ever, but the style is completely distinct. Go listen to this song if you’re feeling down or lonely, and it may just bring you to tears (but in a good way probably).

Serenata a un Indocumentado – Los Jornaleros Del Norte

Wrapping up this week’s mixtape, we have a Spanish Cumbia song. With the classic accordion and guitar to a waltzing three-four time, the female singer addresses undocumented immigrants and their struggle to live a better life. You can feel the emotion in this song, even if you don’t speak Spanish, and it gives a poignant idea of what it’s like to be undocumented. A great song for building awareness and understanding of perspectives different from our own, plus the accordion line is excellent ^.^

Hope you’ve enjoyed this week’s Saturday Shuffle mixtape. If you did, please feel free to share! You can find the playlist on Spotify (near the middle of this post ;).

Happy weekend!!
