Book Blog Newbie Tag – Two Month Blog Update

Hi friends! I found this tag while browsing through Facebook today, and figured I should do it now instead of putting it off until later. I found out about this tag from Tee at Tee’s Library, so be sure to go check her out if you’re interested. Enjoy!

1. Why did you start this blog?

I’ve been blogging for about two months now (whaaa?!) and I think my answer to this question has already changed a bit. I originally intended to attract viewers/readers/folllowers with college and lifestyle posts, then invite them to read my “Fandom Nugget” posts, where I connect all the fandoms to the Bible. Now that I’ve done this for a couple months, however, I’m realizing that talking about too many things is making me feel scattered and unfocused, and I should narrow it down some.

Currently my vision for The Fangirl Fulfilled is to create a space of admiring and enjoying the things we all love, then connecting it back to the Gospel and specific Bible verses. I genuinely consider the internet to be a mission field, and I’m excited to see what God will do here.

Also… having the excuse to fangirl about all the things has been really great ๐Ÿ˜›

2. What are some fun and unique things you can bring to book blogging?

One of the things I’ve done so far in the “book blogging” realm of The Fangirl Fulfilled is to create playlists, aesthetic pages, and bullet journal themes based on books. My current theme is based on The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, the new Hunger Games novel with which I am thoroughly obsessed. It’s quite fun to think about which songs go with which characters, settings, or events happen throughout the book. I plan to continue doing this in the future :).

3. What are you most excited for about this new blog?

The thing that makes me the most excited about blogging, and specifically blogging related to books, is the idea of introducing someone to a new book that they will come to love and cherish. I love it when people from other countries visit my blog, and I love getting recommendations from other bloggers. It feels amazing to meet someone from the same fandom, and I love the idea of building community with other fangirl (fanpeople lol).

4. Why do you love reading?

I love reading because it lets me feel all the feels, explore new ideas, and think about things in a new way. Recently I’ve read a couple of books that are narrated by/feature characters that are completely different from me, and it’s changed the way I think about this type of people in my actual life. I also adore the ability that reading gives me to feel terror, or sadness, or any type of emotion that would otherwise be scary in a safer environment.

It’s also Amazing to me when characters or scenes from books find their way into my dreams… Except maybe the Hunger Games. That one’s less fun XD

5. What book or series got you into reading?

I couldn’t tell you exactly what book got me started reading. I’ve been reading or read to pretty much my entire life, but the earliest books I can remember were the Magic Tree House series, Junie B. Jones, A Little Princess, and alllll of Bill Wallace’s books (may he rest in peace). So good! *wipes away tear*

6. What questions would you ask your favorite authors?

How in the world did you come up with these things? How does it feel to write a beloved character’s death scene? What is your favorite book? (If they have a book that’s been turned into film) what do you think of the movie/show? Who’s your biggest inspiration? If you could be transported to one of your stories for a day, which one would you choose? What do you think of your book’s fan art/fandom? Which things are you currently fangirling over?

7. What challenges to starting a blog do you think will be the hardest to overcome?

I think the hardest challenges for me will be keeping up with blogging long-term in addition to all the other things I’m already doing (classes, two jobs, and the occasional instance of Social Interaction). Especially in the past couple weeks, when I was sick and I had a paper due and a test tomorrow, it has gotten harder to keep up not only with the actual Writing of the Blog Posts, but also promoting them. Social media is… rough sometimes, especially when you can see how many people scrolled right past your finely crafted post without liking it.

8. When did you start reading?

I kid you not, I have been reading in some form or another since birth pretty much. My parents read to me and my siblings before bed when we were small humans, and eventually I started reading on my own, sometimes sneaking a flashlight to stay up after bedtime. Sometimes I miss the good old days when the last thing I did at the end of the day was listen to my dad’s funny narrative voices reading Captain Underpants. Good times…

9. Where do you read?

I’m lucky enough right now to have an entire college dorm room to myself, so I’ve turned the second bed into a sort of couch. This is now my reading/eating/netflixing/everything spot. I also tend to bring a book to work, and read in the student center on my break. Most often though, I “read” by listening to audiobooks as I’m falling asleep at night.

10. What kind of books do you read?

I will always have a soft spot for fantasy, dystopian, and other young adult genres (yeah, not up to the Adult level yet lol), but I also enjoy a good story set in the real world. Right now I’m reading (via audiobook) Reverie, which has a “magical realism” feel to it, but I just finished Skyhunter by Marie Lu, which is a completely different world. Being the ginormous nerd that I am, I also have enjoyed reading the textbook on Old Occitan (a medieval language similar to French) that I bought for a class next semester. What can I say? It’s interesting!

Next month, I’ll probably start re-reading the Anne of Green Gables series, and possibly also Dash and Lily’s book of Dares, my favorite Christmas book (and now Netflix show!!).

Hope you’ve enjoyed this little tangent post. We’ll be back to regularly scheduled programming next week. Thanks for reading! If you want to join this book tag, here are the prompts:
