Saturday Shuffle #2: The one where music helps relieve stress

Here are this week’s favorites. It’s been a bit of a stressful week, but these songs kept me motivated and gave me a little three-minute confidence boost.

“Must Have Done Something Right” by Relient K

This song fits into the “oldie but goodie” category for me. The peppy and lighthearted melody and vocals helped me feel less grumpy on Monday morning (which really says something). I also enjoy that Reliant K has connections with Adam Young/Owl City, and their singer has collaborated on a few of his songs. The lyrics remind me of the “new-relationship glow” (or in my case, the “new language glow”).

“Glorious” by Macklemore + Skylar Grey

Disclaimer: this is pretty much the only song EVER that I listen to that Spotify marks as explicit (as far as I can tell, it’s only because of one s*** that is outweighed in my opinion by the rest of the lyrics). However, its content is actually pretty wholesome, and the song itself is super catchy and confidence-building. I especially appreciate the chorus: “I feel glorious, glorious, got a chance to start again/ I was born for this, born for this, it’s who I am not gonna forget/ I made it through the darkest part of the night, and now I see the sunrise/ now I feel glorious, glorious, I feel glorious, glorious…” The piano line paired with the pounding tempo makes me feel like I can take on the world!

“Baby Love” by The Supremes

I heard this song in my on-campus Starbucks (seriously, they have the best taste in music there) and instantly loved the old-style rock and roll feel that it has. Breathy, catchy female vocals, snare (I think) drums, piano, and saxophone (I think, again not 100% sure on that) combine with the classic love-story lyrics to make this song a perfect snapshot of the 1950s. And I think we could all use a little of that goodness right now ;).

“Hello Seattle-Remix” by Owl City

I will always, no matter how many new songs or artists or genres I discover, come back to Owl City. This week I was jamming to the first song I ever heard of his: “Hello Seattle-Remix” from the Ocean Eyes Deluxe album. I love how it gradually escalates from a dreamy, smooth electronic flow to a peppy electronic/dubstep bop. And of course it takes me back to a time when life was simpler, yada, yada. So good!

“How Far I’ll Go” from Moana OST

This Thursday, when I was getting excited about my first Fandom Nuggets post, I was also jamming to “How Far I’ll Go” from the soundtrack to Moana. I love this song all the time (honestly who doesn’t though), but I especially loved it this week, since that post I mentioned specifically focuses on how baby Moana’s seashells relate to Biblical “nuggets” that we find when we study the Bible from the right mindset. Go check it out if you’re interested πŸ™‚
