September Scripture Writing Week 1- Biblical Affirmations for Mental Health

Happy September, friends! Today I wanted to share with you some thoughts on Part 1 (days 1-4) of the Scriptural Affirmations journaling/Scripture Writing plan that I designed for this month. It’s only been a couple of days, but I’m already loving this time in the Word and the beautiful shades of blue in the kit. Enjoy!

Day 1: you are created.

When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, The moon and the stars, which You have set in place; What is man that You think of him, And a son of man that You are concerned about him?5 Yet You have made him a little lower than God, And You crown him with glory and majesty!

Psalm 8:3-5 NASB

I’ve always loved these verses because they describe our position as humans so perfectly. In light of the absolute vastness and infinity of God, we are small and insignificant… And yet, we are also valuable and worthy of His attention and care, simply because it pleased Him to make it this way. What does it mean to be “a little lower than God”? Is this the Hebrew word that means “heavenly being,” or is it something different?

Day 1 journaling

Day 2: you are loved.

For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 8:38-39 NASB

Takeaway: “Nothing which appears to be good and nothing which appears to be evil can separate us from the love of God.” – David Guzik

Day 2 journaling

Day 3: you are seen.

Where can I go from Your Spirit?

Or where can I flee from Your presence?

8 If I ascend to heaven, You are there;

If I make my bed in Sheol, behold, You are there.

If I take up the wings of the dawn,

If I dwell in the remotest part of the sea,

10 Even there Your hand will lead me,

And Your right hand will take hold of me.

11 If I say, “Surely the darkness will overwhelm me,

And the light around me will be night,”

12 Even darkness is not dark to You,

And the night is as bright as the day.

Darkness and light are alike to You.

13 For You created my innermost parts;

You wove me in my mother’s womb.

Psalm 139:7-13 NASB

No matter how dark the outsides (or the insides) seem, God still sees me. He sees the good and the bad and loves me through all of it.

Day 3 journaling

Day 4: you are heard.

Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let’s hold firmly to our confession. 15 For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things just as we are, yet without sin. 16 Therefore let’s approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace for help at the time of our need.

Hebrews 4:14-16 NASB

“We don’t have a high priest who is out of touch with our reality (The Message)… Jesus is the only one who actually knows how we feel.
