September Scripture Writing – Week 3 Thoughts

Happy weekend, friends, and welcome back to another week of the September Scripture Writing plan and journaling stickers kit. This week I’m sharing my process and thoughts on week 3 of this beautiful kit. Enjoy!

Day 12 – You are trustworthy.

Now all [these] things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation, namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their wrongdoings against them, and He has committed to us the word of reconciliation. Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making an appeal through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. He made Him who knew no sin [to be] sin in our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

2 Cor. 5:18-21 NASB

This verse made such a difference in how I view myself and my identity in Christ when I first discovered it about a year ago! I knew 2 Corinthians 5:17 by heart from childhood (“if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation…”) but never really read past it. So learning that God both loves AND trusts me is so crazy amazing to me!! He entrusts us with the message of His Son, that has the potential to save souls and expand the Kingdom of God. Wooooooooahhhh!!!

Day 13 – You are powerful

I thank God, whom I serve with a clear conscience the way my forefathers did, as I constantly remember you in my prayers night and day, longing to see you, even as I recall your tears, so that I may be filled with joy. For I am mindful of the sincere faith within you, which first dwelled in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am sure that [it is] in you as well. For this reason I remind you to kindle afresh the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For God has not given us a spirit of timidity, but of power and love and discipline.

2 Tim. 1:3-7 NASB

Today I enjoyed reading the context of another familiar verse. I observed that Timothy’s power and love and discipline came from the foundation of a mother and grandmother who filled his heart and mind with Scripture, and also from Paul, who was actively involved in teaching him and raising him up to teach others. So cool!

Day 14 – You are joyful

In this you greatly rejoice, even though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been distressed by various trials, so that the proof of your faith, [being] more precious than gold which perishes though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise, glory, and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ; and though you have not seen Him, you love Him, and though you do not see Him now, but believe in Him, you greatly rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory, obtaining as the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

1 Peter 1:6-9 NASB

The source of our joy should always be the Lord.

Day 15 – You are a witness

But He said to them, “It is not for you to know periods of time or appointed times which the Father has set by His own authority; but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem and in all Judea, and Samaria, and as far as the remotest part of the earth.”

Acts 1:7-8 NASB

I enjoyed reading the context of yet another familiar verse today. I observed from this that we’re called not to spend too much time wondering about the distant or near future or things out of our control, but just to be a witness for the Kingdom to everyone, everywhere.

Day 16 – You are God’s child

See how great a love the Father has given us, that we would be called children of God; and [in fact] we are. For this reason the world does not know us: because it did not know Him. Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we will be. We know that when He appears, we will be like Him, because we will see Him just as He is. And everyone who has this hope [set] on Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.

1 John 3:1-3 NASB

This verse taught me that being a child of God means being in a process of growth – “it has not appeared as yet what we will be.” Children don’t worry too much about whether they’re growing up fast enough, and neither should we. I’d love to study on this idea more in the coming weeks!

Day 17 – You are free

So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, “If you continue in My word, [then] you are truly My disciples; and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” … Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly I say to you, everyone who commits sin is a slave of sin. “Now the slave does not remain in the house forever; the son does remain forever. “So if the Son sets you free, you really will be free.

John 8:31-32, 34-36 NASB

Therefore there is now no condemnation at all for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death.

Romans 8:1-2 NASB

It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery.

Galatians 5:1 NASB

Today I noticed a connection between Jesus’ words in John 8 – “everyone who commits sin is a slave of sin” – and Paul’s in Romans 8 – “the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and death.” I’d like to reflect and study and learn more about the “law of Christ” and how I can follow it.

Day 18 – You are royal

“For you are a holy people to the LORD your God; the LORD your God has chosen you to be a people for His personal possession out of all the peoples who are on the face of the earth. “The LORD did not make you His beloved nor choose you because you were greater in number than any of the peoples, since you were the fewest of all peoples, but because the LORD loved you and kept the oath which He swore to your forefathers, the LORD brought you out by a mighty hand and redeemed you from the house of slavery, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.

Deut. 7:6-8 NASB

‘You yourselves have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and [how] I carried you on eagles’ wings, and brought you to Myself. ‘Now then, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be My own possession among all the peoples, for all the earth is Mine; and you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words that you shall speak to the sons of Israel.”

Ex. 19:4-6 NASB

But you are A CHOSEN PEOPLE, A royal PRIESTHOOD, A HOLY NATION, A PEOPLE FOR [GOD’S] OWN POSSESSION, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;

1 Peter 2:9 NASB

Today I enjoyed finding the original designation of a people group as “a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation” that is quoted in 1 Peter 2:9. It’s so cool to imagine that, because of Christ and my adoption into His family, I have a spiritual heritage that goes all the way back to Exodus!
