Happy Sunday, lovely people! I’ve just spent the past half hour or so discovering what others’ thought of for this week’s Song Lyric Sunday prompt, and figured I should go ahead and join in (you know, while it’s still Sunday and all π). Song Lyrics Sunday is a weekly challenge hosted by Jim, and this week’s prompt is “Sweet, Pleasant, Delightful, Heavenly.” Of course I thought of the song “Butterflies” by Kacey Musgraves, which to me is the epitome of that freshly-fallen-in-love feeling. Enjoy!
Why “Butterflies” is so pleasant, sweet, delightful and heavenly to me
I picked this song for the prompt this week because, as I stated before, it perfectly sums up the I’ve-finally-found-true-love feeling. It gives me the kind of mushy satisfaction that comes from the “and they all lived happily ever after the end” portion of a good book or movie, especially since the singer references previous relationships that didn’t treat her well. I also like to think of this as the process of sanctification – slowly unlearning all the false beliefs and behaviors I engaged in as a believer, and accepting the truth of a relationship with Jesus instead. Seriously just about every line of this song lines up with a Bible verse almost word-for word and it is literally the COOLEST THING EVER!! Here’s an example:
“Now you’re lifting me up, instead of holding me down…” – Kacey Musgraves, “Butterflies”
“But you, O LORD, are a shield about me, my glory, and the lifter of my head.” Psalm 3:3 ESV
The verse references the Lord lifting the psalmist’s head, the same action as the song lyrics. See what I mean? So cool!!!
