Song Lyric Sunday – Birth, Death, Life: “The Fifth of July” by Owl City

the fifth of july owl city

Happy Sunday lovely humans. This week’s Song Lyric Sunday prompt is “birth, death, life,” so I immediately thought of this sweet song from Owl City’s 2018 Cinematic album. I hope that this post shows the wide variety of music that Adam Young (creator of Owl City) has made and continues to make. Enjoy “The Fifth of July” by Owl City!

“The Fifth of July” Owl City

The entire Cinematic album was a welcome return to Owl City’s more classic style, as opposed to the “pop phase” that he went through in previous albums. Each song tells a story, from the bucolic vacation of “Madeleine Island” to the heartfelt love letter of “Always.” “The Fifth of July” tells the story of Adam Young’s birth and family on the day after Independence day in the countryside of Iowa. As a longtime Obsessed Hoot Owl, I greatly appreciate this look into Adam’s personal life (he’s generally a pretty private person), but even those who aren’t Owl City fans can enjoy the song as well.
