Happy day, friends! I found this challenge called Song Lyric Sunday, hosted by Jim at Newepicauthor, and even though it isn’t Sunday anymore, this week’s prompt was just too good not to participate. So, without further ado, here’s my best choice for a song that describes “Devoted, Faithful, Honorable, Loyal, True.” Enjoy!
Imagine Dragons “Next to Me”
I absolutely adore this song from Imagine Dragons’ 2017 album Evolve. Like, I cried the first time I heard it because it was just so beautiful ππβ¨ The lyrics talk about someone who feels unworthy of the love they’ve received from their significant other. I relate to this song so much, even though I’m currently single, because whenever I hear it, I think of the unconditional and indescribably beautiful love of God that I continue to receive daily, despite all the mistakes and failures in my past, present and future. Ohhhhhhhhhh, I always let you down, you’re shattered on the ground, still I find you there, next to me. And ohhhhhhhhhh, stupid things I do. I’m far from good, it’s true, still I find you next to me. *unintelligible fangirl noises* SOO GOOOOD!!!!!!!!
I also love the pure raw emotion in the singer’s voice, which is part of why it evokes such a strong emotional reaction. I just love a good expressive male lead vocal, especially one with an extensive vocal range, and this song has everything I could possibly ask for. It also varies between softer verses and bridge and the expansive, desperate-sounding chorus. At the end of the song, a female vocalist joins in, possibly the lead singer’s wife, and this detail adds so much texture to the song. And of course the instrumental track is classic Imagine Dragons, with a combination of guitar and irregular drumbeats that sound almost like a nervous heartbeat.
Here’s a full analysis of the original intent of this song (human talking to another human) and
Here’s my full-length interpretation of it (God’s love for humans)

Conclusion
I hope you’ve enjoyed this Song Lyrics Sunday post, despite the fact that it isn’t actually Sunday. Let me know what you think of this song if you wish, and my interpretation of it as the love of God. See you next Sunday!
