Happy late-night, friends, and welcome to a pure and unadulterated this-new-thing-is-amazing-and-I-have-to-gush-about-it-to-anyone-who-will-listen fangirling session. That’s right, I just finished watching the new animated Spiderman movie, Spiderman: Across the Spider-Verse and I am OBSESSED!!! There are so many things to love about this movie!!! But because I want anyone who happens to read this to also go see the movie, I solemnly swear to avoid spoiling it as much as possible. Hope you enjoy!!
The soundtrack
One of my favorite things about movies and shows that I love is when they also have an amazing soundtrack. I love feeling that I can continue to inhabit my favorite stories and worlds even in my everyday life. For example. I am currently listening to the soundtrack of Spiderman: Across the Spider-Verse and I’m loving it! The songs that were used in the actual movie were a little less jam-worthy than the first one, at least from what I remember, but still superb overall. And hey, I doubt that anyone could hope to surpass the genius that is “Sunflower.” You can’t tell me that you didn’t hear that opening beat as soon as I mentioned it!!
Update: the new Spider-Verse soundtrack is growing on me! They’ve sampled some of the dialogue from the movie and there’s lots of layers to it. I love the urban hip-hop feel to it, it really captures the overall feel of the movie. Which brings me to the next part I’d love to fangirl over!!
Here’s a playlist I found on Spotify with all the songs from both soundtracks:
The family dynamics and characters
This new Spider-Verse movie gives us a deeper look into both Miles and Gwen’s universes. I’mma do my very best not to spoil anything, but I just loved the way that each of them are growing and maturing – and their families are growing with them! I especially love the Spanglish (like, the naturally flowing, code-switching kind) that happens with Miles and his parents. The authentic Latinx feel is something that I LOVED about the first movie, and it just gets better in this one!! There’s also a lot of non-verbal communication that is SO ON POINT with the Puerto Rican mom character and just… just yes. Yes!!
There’s also an even wider array of characters than the original, and an EVEN MORE INCLUSIVE environment. With it taking place in the multiverse, how could they NOT!! But that part made me really happy too : )
my favorite part – THAT ARTWORK THO!!!!
Okay, but the truly amazing most bestest part that sets this movie in a whole other UNIVERSE from any other movie I’ve seen is the ARTWORK. Like, every single FRAME of this movie is SO well done!! The way that they (the animators) combined all the different art styles and made every universe unique and reflected the emotions of the characters especially Gwen’s and just pulled it all together SO BEAUTIFULLY jvklsa;hfjakhjgkaphipahu I just love it SO MUCH!!! I can’t wait for Across the Spider-Verse to come out on streaming/video so I can capture some of the lovely scenes and attempt to make some fan art of them.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this little late-night fangirling session over Spiderman: Into the Spider-Verse. Have I convinced you to go watch or stream it? I hope so! You’ll be doing your eyeballs, and your heartstrings, a favor. If you have seen the movie already, what did you think? I’d love to know!!
Happy fangirling!!
