Suriel Hess – Little Bit More

Happy Sunday, my friends, and welcome to another love-songs-as-Gospel-message post! I found this song “Little Bit More” by Suriel Hess while scrolling through Instagram reels, and it IMMEDIATELY reminded me of how it feels to have a relationship with Jesus. Looking into the lyrics a little bit deeper, it made me tear up a little bit. So good!! Hope you enjoy this post : )

Fandom: Suriel Hess, “Little Bit More”

Verses: Psalm 59:16, Ephesians 3:17-19, Psalm 118:13-14, 29

Truth: We will never run out of height, width, depth, or breadth to God’s love and what we can know of it.

The Fandom: Suriel Hess “Little Bit More”

Once again, this song is super sweet and adorable and I honestly really enjoy it even on a human-to-human level. It’s talking about the singer wanting to tell his loved one how much he loves them, and says things like there’s always more of you to learn and I keep falling that are common occurrences in love songs. But the chorus of this song is probably the best part (and the part that keeps showing up on Instagram):

suriel hess little bit more

I fall in love with you a little bit more, little bit, little bit, a little bit more Every time I think I’ve lost my way I fall in love with you a little bit more, little bit, little bit more than before Even on the days I’m not so sure I fall in love with you a little bit more…

The thing that made me tear up a little bit when I first heard this song was the fact that the singer was expressing that he loves his person no matter what, ‘even on the days I’m not so sure.” For humans, this probably means the days that they aren’t getting along so well, but for me thinking about my relationship with God, it means all of the up-and-down, overwhelmed by all the feels or just t i r e d kind of moments. The times when the futility of life, especially online life, is catching up with me, and I wonder if all of the words and pictures and time and effort that I’ve put into this website are worth it in the end.

That’s the place I was in when this song came on, and that’s exactly the reminder that I needed. Even on the days when I don’t know if what I’m doing is worthwhile, I still know the love of God, and His love will never end.

The verses

Here are some verses I found about the unfailing love of God, and how we can and should express our love back to Him:

But I will sing of your strength; I will sing aloud of your steadfast love in the morning. For you have been to me a fortress and a refuge in the day of my distress.

Psalm 59:16 ESV

(Paul praying for the Epesians)…so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith–that you, being rooted and grounded in love,

may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth,

and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

Ephesians 3:17-19 ESV

I was pushed hard, so that I was falling, but the LORD helped me.

The LORD is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation.

Oh give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever!

Psalm 118:13-14, 29

My journal pages

I used a fresh copy of the Fangirl: Fulfilled devotional journal to process and (over)analyze this song and its meaning. Here’s what the pages look like:

I took inspiration from the soft blues and yellows of the song’s album artwork and used some scrapbook paper that I got for Christmas. I’m really enjoying the way these colors look together!!

You can pick up your own copy of the journal on Amazon (with Prime free shipping!) or download a free printable copy to try out here. Find out more about the heart behind this devotional journal here!

Application

As a response to what we’ve learned from this song, here are some “I will” statements to help us live out our faith in real, moment-by-moment life:

  • I will tell the Lord that I love Him
  • I will remember that He is with me, even when I feel lost
  • I will let my love for Him overflow into love for the people around me
