Welcome back to the Gospel According to! This month’s discussion will be just a little different. Instead of focusing on a single quote, I’m finding several verses that line up with the characteristics of each Hogwarts house. First up of course is Ravenclaw, since that’s my house. Enjoy this list of Ravenclaw Bible verses!

Wisdom
This is probably the most well-known Ravenclaw trait. In general terms, wisdom means almost the same thing as intelligence, but the Bible has a different perspective. In Biblical terms, wisdom comes directly from fear (respect and honor) of the Lord (Prov.1:7) and we are called to search for it dilligently, like one would search for a pecious jewel. Here are some Bible verses about Godly Wisdom:
- The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction. Proverbs 1:7
- If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. James 1:5
- Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. Matthew 7:24
- Get wisdom; get insight; do not forget, and do not turn away from the words of my mouth… She will place on your head a graceful garland; she will bestow on you a beautiful crown. Proverbs 4:5-9

Creativity
Another trait of Ravenclaw is that of creativity. Creative people provide a different perspective to every situation they encounter. They have a unique ability to bring beauty to the world around them, which is an excellent trait when that beauty also reveals the nature of God. Here are some verses that reflect the creative nature of Ravenclaw house:
- For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:10
- Do you see someone skilled in their work? They will serve before kings; they will not serve before officials of low rank. Proverbs 22:29
- For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse. Romans 1:20

Acceptance
Ravenclaws at their best are accepting of imperfections, both in themselves and in others. They are willing to laugh at their mistakes, because making mistakes is the key to learning. They are also accepting of new ideas, considering every angle before coming to a conclusion. In a Godly context, these traits reflect the grace and inclusivity of the Kingdom. Here are some verses for this aspect of Ravenclaw house:
- He has saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. 2 Timothy 1:9
- But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. 2 Corinthians 12:9
- There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. Galatians 3:28
- Let not the foreigner who has joined himself to the Lord say, “The Lord will surely separate me from his people”; and let not the eunuch say, “Behold, I am a dry tree.” For thus says the Lord: “To the eunuchs who keep my Sabbaths, who choose the things that please me and hold fast my covenant, I will give in my house and within my walls a monument and a name better than sons and daughters; I will give them an everlasting name that shall not be cut off. Isaiah 56: 3-5

Curiosity
The final trait of Ravenclaw that we’ll discuss today is that of curiosity. Ravenclaws will pick up a book in the library merely because the cover looked interesting, or randomly decide to take up astronomy or ancient runes for the same reason. Talking to a Ravenclaw, you’ll discover their many interests, which may seem unrelated, but make sense in their own mind. Here are some Bible verses on the topic of curiosity and seeking God:
- Also, he has put eternity into man’s heart, yet so that he cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end. Ecclesiastes 3:11b
- You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart. Jeremiah 29:13
