Greetings, fellow Harry Potter fans! this week’s post is the second in a series of posts discussing Bible verses I’ve found that connect to the Hogwarts houses from the Harry Potter series. You can read the first episode, Ravenclaw, here. Enjoy this collection of Slytherin Bible verses!
Fandom: Harry Potter Slytherin house and its distinguishing characteristics
Verses: Hebrews 10:24, 30, Matthew 10:16, Luke 16:10-12, Philippians 1:9-11, 1 Corinthians 2:11, Philippians 4:11-13, Proverbs 12:23, Hosea 12:6
Nugget: Slytherin’s determination, leadership, sense of justice, and discernment are valuable to the Kingdom of God.
Justice
Slytherins are known for being passionate about justice, either for themselves or others. Slytherins who are part of the Kingdom of God know that God is the bringer of all justice.
- I said in my heart, God will judge the righteous and the wicked, for there is a time for every matter and for every work. Ecclesiastes 3:17
- For we know him who said, “Vengeance is mine; I will repay.” And again, “The Lord will judge his people.” Hebrews 10:30
- “So you, by the help of your God, return, hold fast to love and justice, and wait continually for your God.” Hosea 12:6
- “For there is no distinction; for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.” Romans 3:23-24
Ambition, Focus, Determination, and Leadership
Ambition is one of the most common Slytherin traits. It’s usually employed in the context of self-promotion, but in the Kingdom, ambition translates as determination and focus on furthering the Gospel.
- And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works,
Hebrews 10:24 - “One who is faithful in a very little is also faithful in much, and one who is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much. If then you have not been faithful in the unrighteous wealth, who will entrust to you the true riches? Luke 16:10-12

Shrewdness, Discernment, and Adaptability
Finally, Slytherins are known for discernment and cunning, which is another way of saying they have good judgement. In the Kingdom, this can mean testing to see the right thing to do to further the Gospel and the Word of God.
- And it is my prayer that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment, so that you may approve what is excellent, and so be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God. Philippians 1:9-11
- Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. I can do all things through him who strengthens me. Philippians 4:11-13
- “Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves. Matthew 10:16
