Luna Lovegood – “Don’t worry, you’re just as sane as I am.”

Happy Monday, friends, and welcome to another Gospel According to post! Luna Lovegood is one of my favorite characters from the Harry Potter universe, and I think about her iconic line, “You’re as sane as I am,” quite often. In fact, I think it can be a great way of explaining how it feels to be a believer in an unseen God in a world that claims He no longer exists. Hope you enjoy!

Fandom: “Don’t worry, you’re just as sane as I am.” – Luna Lovegood

Verses: Hebrews 11:1-3, 1 Corinthians 1:17-19, 2 Corinthians 4:5-6, Ephesians 2:8-9, John 20:29,31

Indigo Isle – I will bring home My lost ones…

Happy Monday, friends, and welcome to another episode of The Gospel According To, where we find the hidden Biblical truths in secular stories and songs. I listened to the audiobook version of Indigo Isle by T. I. Lowe a few weeks ago, and it was such a heartwarming read. Pleasantly surprised by the sudden appearance of Bible verses, I grew to love the way that the author wove Biblical truths into her secular story. Hope you enjoy!

Fandom: “I will search for my ost ones and bring them home… ” Ezekiel 34:15, quoted in Indigo Isle by T. I. Lowe

Verses: Ezekiel 34:15-16, Psalm 119:176, Luke 19:10, Matthew 18:12-14

Finding Nemo – lost sons and unconditional love

Happy Monday, friends, and welcome to another fandoms post! I watched the classic Pixar movie Finding Nemo a few weeks ago and was struck by its similarity to a famous parable. Good Friday 2023 – Restored.

Happy Good Friday, friends, and welcome to a new fandoms-as-Gospel post! I’ve been thinking about this one for months now, and I’m super excited to share it with you. More specifically, I’ve been thinking about Avatar: The Last Airbender and how Aang and his epic final battle with Fire Lord Ozai is sort of a picture of the triumph that Jesus Christ gained over Satan and his power on this day, roughly 2,023 years ago. Hope you enjoy!

Fandom: Avatar the Last Airbender, Aang’s final battle with Fire Lord Ozai

Verses: Romans 5:6-8, Philippians 2:5-11, Galatians 4:4-6, Colossians 2:13-15, Isaiah 53:12, John 1:1-5, 8:44, 1 Corinthians 15:54-57, 1 John 2:8, Ephesians 6:11-13, Romans 5:1-2, 2 Corinthians 5:21, Matthew 27:45-46, 1 Peter 3:18-20a, 1 John 3:7-8

Truth: Jesus is the suffering servant, sacrificial lamb, AND conquering King. He suffered and died for our sins, and in so doing, He crushed the power of Satan over the world and ended the war between us and God. He made it possible for us to return to the people we were meant to be, and He defeated (but didn’t eliminate) sin, Hell, and death. Someday, He will return to Earth, destroy the Enemy for good, and bring us into eternal and unhindered fellowship with Him forever. Amen!
