Treasure in Jars of Clay Scripture Writing Kit – Day 1

Today is the first day of Lent, and I wanted to take a moment to introduce you to one of my newest creations, the Treasure in Jars of Clay Scripture writing kit! I have loved putting this kit together, and I can’t wait to work through all of the Scripture prompts during this season of reflection and remembrance leading up to Easter Sunday. Enjoy!

Intro: all the goodies!

As we approached the middle of February, I started to think about the Lenten season and how I want to celebrate/observe it this year. The inspiration for this kit actually emerged while watching The Fault in Our Stars movie on Valentine’s Day, in particular the moment when the waiter quotes that one guy who said, “Look! I have bottled the stars!” As soon as I heard that quote, I immediately thought of 2 Corinthians 4:7, which says,

But we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us.

English Standard Version

From there, I went down a long and winding rabbit hole of cross-references and word studies, with a particular focus on the oxymoronic tone of these verses. The idea that God takes His immensely valuable treasure and places it inside of people like me completely blew me away, and I knew that I wanted to spend more time with this idea during Lent 2022.

And so, the Treasure in Jars of Clay Scripture Writing kit was born, with four parts, 14 prompts, and the ability to dive deep into each part of Scripture for a feast we’ll never forget. Because there are only 14 prompts, we’ll have the ability to spread each one out over two or three days, gaining more richness in the process. This kit also has the flexibility of a shorter time span which makes it accessible for any time of year, not just Lent.

Here are all the ways you can take part in the Treasure in Jars of Clay Lent Scripture Writing process:

Which ones were your favorite? I love how the midnight-blue jars turned out when I printed them 2 pages/sheet! So adorable ๐Ÿ˜ป

How to use this kit

As I said before, this Lent Scripture writing kit is designed for optimum accessibility and depth of study. Here are some ways you can use it:

  • Write out the Scripture prompts with your favorite pen or pencil in a translation of your choice
  • Look at different translations throughout the week in between prompts (I’ll be posting my process every Wednesday and Sunday throughout Lent)
  • Break down each verse and study individual words and phrases
  • Look up cross-references for even MORE Scripture to feast on
  • Practice your hand-lettering skills with brush pens or even paint
  • Create Bible journaling or faith journal pages with all the beautiful things!!

No matter how you choose to use it, the verses in this kit are sure to bring a depth and richness of understanding to your Bible time and your life as you read and meditate each day โœจ

My Day 1 Process

To finish out this post, here’s a look at my process for the first day’s Scripture prompt. As you can see, I started out by writing the verse with a simple brush pen and a few stickers, then came back a few days later and spent more time studying and responding to the richness it contained. As a result of this, I spent even more time reflecting on what the verses meant than I would have by simply reading a devotional for the day.
